WAKAYAMA, Japan -- Japanese battery maker Panasonic Energy is ready to begin mass-producing its latest cylindrical EV battery cells in western Japan for major customer Tesla.

"The new cells are larger, which improves the efficiency for automakers when loading them on EVs," Panasonic Energy CEO Kazuo Tadanobu told reporters on Monday. "We believe they will contribute to the spread of affordable EVs."
